ENGLISH:

Usually people describe cats as bad temper treasonous animals, sometimes without even giving them a chance as pets by getting to be with one to see how they really are. I am not going to deny that some of them may behave like that, but for sure you are missing the best of them if you never at least spend a day or two below the same roof with one.
In the end, a petīs temper is nothing but the projection of his master.

Angus passed away this afternoon, victim of a disease without cure denominated F.I.P. (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). He died too early for he was only 4 years and 7 months old. He left us with an immense emptyness sensation in our hearts, impossible to describe, the same sensation you can feel if a near relative dies...because in fact, Angus was a part of the family.

All I can say to you is that, in this four years and a half he got to become my very best friend, and he left his paws tatooed very deep in the hearts of the people who knew him: I remember back when I was single, when he always waited for me to return from the office, sitting by the door, or when he took those crazy sprints all arround the house without having any reason to do such a thing...just for fun...at that time he saved me from loneliness...always willing to share his peace with me by sitting by my side in search of caress or just to play.

The time passed and new people came in to the house: first it was my girlfriend, with whom Iīm married now and waiting for a children! and then it came Neo, an oriental kitten. At that time, my wife and I where very little time at home. so we though it was a good idea to bring Angus someone he could play with when we where not there. With time they became very close to each other, and to us.

Recently we began to suspect that something was wrong with Angus, he always looked tired without an apparent reason, and we couldnīt find any answers for that anywhere. In spite of that, he never change his mood and showed an unbelievable thankfulness for everything we did to try to make him feel better (as if he would know).
Let him go was one of the most difficult and painful decissions I ever took in my life.

Even in his deathbed, after passing through all the lab tests that can be imagined and almost unable to breathe, Angus answered to each caress I gave him by moving his tail and kissing my hand. That was a demostration of loyalty and love that I will never forget.

To the best and most loyal friend I could have asked for.

Angus (22/04/2002 - 25/11/2006)

I wish someone ever told me to get informed about FIP virus before, so the less I can do now is to tell you, If you have a cat, inform yourself about it. Just follow the [link]

Angus (22/04/2002 - 25/11/2006)

I suggest you go to [link] She is one of the leading veterinarian researchers in this field. FIP cannot be prevented until we can prevent the feline enteric coronavirus which cats have no long term immunity to because it mutates too fast. It is similar to the human cold virus in this respect. Only approximately 10% of the cats that become infected with the feline enteric coronavirus develop FIP. About 30% become life time carriers of the virus. FIP happens because the individual cat's body in not capable of mounting a proper defense against the virus and the virus starts replicating within the cat's immune system in the macrophages. It is actually the cat's own body that kills the cat, not the disease. I lost my first Scottish Fold kitten to FIP at 7 month of age in 2003. In older cats such as yours, there are a fair number (over 30%) that do go into remission when treated with feline interferon although it does not have any success with cats under a year of age. It can really only be prevented by only breeding cats who have tested negative for feline enteric coronavirus. Unless a cattery has a problem, at which point it may be epidemic levels, most breeders do not seem to want to take all the precautions necessary to prevent the primary disease. The "vaccine" against feline enteric coronavirus has no real efficacy and is not a good preventative measure and has been shown to actually make cats more suceptible to FIP than not.
I have researched this subject and read every paper published on the subject as well as communicating with a number of veterinarians specializing in this field and attending seminars and forums on the subject. Do not hold out false hope to others that there is a viable form of prevention when there is not.

P.S. I'm very sorry for your loss. Without exception, I have found that those kittens and cats who do get FIP are the very essence of all we love in our cats as far as temperament, disposition, intelligence and behaviors. I find it pathetically ironic that this disease kills cats with what we love most in cats. :( My own kitten was loving, kind, intelligent and affectionate. He never fought, ran away or hid in spite of being on a regiment of medications. At all times, he was sweet and loving. He was so brave and I will charish forever what time we had together as I'm sure you will do with Angus.

Due to the highly infectious nature of feline enteric coronavirus, I cannot recommend that people have more than one cat unless they are tested for FECoV. The older a kitten is when it first meets FECoV, the better the chances it will survive the encounted assuming it is 4 months or older when it's immune system is almost mature.

I'm so sorry
May he rest in peace

I understand what you're saying.
It's so true.
I just lost my cat, and best friend through 11 years a month ago. and the emptiness...
We got a new kitten, and he's such a precious lil' thing. But still.. Without Tosi around, I feel empty. He got sick too, but we didn't notice until it was too late. And then he disappeared. Three days later we foudn him. He'd passed on in his sleep though, so he was in no pain. Thankfully.
